Milton Abbey

Category: Activity Holidays
Region: SW England
  • Milton Abbey
  • Milton Abbey
Nestled between two valleys in the beautiful Dorset countryside, Milton Abbey offers stunning views over the tranquil Capability Brown designed landscape. The Abbey itself has been a place of worship and contemplation for over a thousand years.

Established in AD934 by King Athelstan, whose image still awaits visitors in the choir, the Abbey and house are peaceful, secluded havens yet only a short distance from the bustling county town of Dorchester and the famous sandy beaches of Bournemouth.

A remote, yet accessible, retreat awaits you with loads of facilities to enjoy on site.  From our Peter Alliss designed 9-hole golf course, pool and tennis courts to acres of surrounding woods and pathways to explore.  Beyond the immediate grounds the local area has lots to entertain you, whatever your interests.  Country mansions, historic landscapes, literary icons, local wildlife and rural adventures are all on our doorstep.

Accommodation is offered dormitory style, with tea and coffee making facilities in boarding house kitchens, and all meals freshly prepared by our team of in-house chefs.  Vegan, nut free, vegetarian, gluten and lactose free diets can also be accommodated.  Accessible rooms are available in our two newest boarding houses.

Conference facilities are also available for Christian groups with commodious state rooms and our 300-seat theatre for those looking for a place to meet in tranquil, spiritual surroundings.  Christian prayer and contemplation have been a central part of life at Milton Abbey for 1000 years and the Abbey is a centre of Benedictine fellowship.
